2017, Zimbabwe won an ODI series in Sri Lanka 3-2

On this day July 10, 2017, Zimbabwe won an ODI series in Sri Lanka 3-2. It was their first ever series win against Sri Lanka and first away series win since 2009 (they beat Kenya in 2009).

Zimbabwe won 3-2

Zimbabwe first away series win against a Test nation since defeating Bangladesh in 2001. It was also Zimbabwe’s first win in a five-match series away from home.

Zimbabwe won the ODI series when they beat Sri Lanka at Hambantota. Sri Lanka scored 203 for 8, Asela Gunaratne hit 59 runs and Player of the match Sikandar Raza took 3 for 21 for his 10 overs.

Zimbabwe scored 204 runs and won by 3 wickets with 71 balls remaining. Player of The Series, Hamilton Masakadza hit 73 runs.

This was Sri Lanka’s third consecutive series defeat and the first ever against a lower-ranked team at home.

Angelo Mathews Stepped Down

Sri Lanka’s captain, Angelo Mathews, stepped down as captain of the team in all three formats after the ODI series.
