1999, Saqlain Mushtaq World Cup Hat-trick

On this day during on June 11, 1999, Pakistani spinner Saqlain Mushtaq became the second bowler to take a hat-trick in ICC World Cup. Meanwhile, Saqlain, took his second hat-trick against Zimbabwe at The Oval. He dismissed, Henry Olonga (st daggerMoin Khan), Adam Huckle (st daggerMoin Khan) and Pommie Mbangwa (lbw).

However, Pakistan won by 148 runs and Saeed Anwar became the Player of The Match by scoring 103 runs.

Saqlain take his first hat-trick against Zimbabwe at Peshawar, during Nov 3 1996. He became the second bowler to take two hat-tricks in ODIs. Wasim Akram was the first bowler to take two hat-tricks in ODIs (West Indies 1989 and Australia 1990).

ICC World Cup

Meanwhile, 11 hat-trick have come in ICC World Cups. However, since 1999, a hat-trick has been recorded in every ICC World Cup editions.

Indian bowler Chetan Sharma is the first to take a hat-trick in ICC World Cup. Sharma took his hat-trick against New Zealand at Nagpur, Oct 31 1987. The only bowler to have taken two ODI hat-tricks is Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga. SL Malinga took 4 wickets in 4 balls against South Africa in Guyana, 2007. Meanwhile, Malinga took his 2nd hat-trick against Kenya, he took Tanmay Mishra, Peter Ongondo, Shem Ngoche.
