1990, Mike Atherton Scored His Maiden Test Century

On this day on June 12, 1990, England opening batsman Mike Atherton scored his maiden test century at the age of 22.

Atherton, in his third Test match, Atherton scored 151 runs against New Zealand at Nottingham and he became the Player of The Match.

He was at the time England’s youngest century-maker. However, In 1 March 2006, Alastair Cook broke the Atherton record by scored his maiden century at 21 years and 69 days.

Atherton played his first (1989) and last (2001) test match against Australia. On his test career, he scored 7728 runs in 115 test matches. He scored 16 test centuries and 46 half-centuries .
